Scenario: Your small estate winery has a reception hall that it rents out for special events, such as weddings or wedding receptions. During the summer months, a covered deck can also be booked for an additional cost. You want customers to be able to book the venue on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. You will collect a $2,500 deposit when the venue is booked. This deposit will be applied to the final price, which will be charged to the customer's credit card 2 weeks before the event date.
| 1. | Create a listing from the Venue template. Refer to Creating a listing (general) for more information. |
The listing is created and displayed in Preview mode. If you navigate away from the listing, you can find it again by clicking Manage | Listings and searching for the listing under Inactive listings.
| 2. | Edit the listing overview. |
You want to use the overview to describe the venue, and how many people it can accommodate. You also want to explain that a $2,500 deposit is collected with the initial booking, which is applied to the final price 2 weeks before the event date. You also want to describe options that are available for an additional cost.
| 3. | Edit the terms and conditions. |
You want to identify any terms and conditions related to the booking. For example, since a deposit is being collected, you will want to explain how the deposit will be handled. You will also want to outline your policies for rescheduling, canceling, and no shows.
| 4. | Edit the pricing. |
The listing price is for the venue, but you need to create two pricing tiers: the first is for the reception hall, the second is for the reception hall and deck.
| 5. | Enable deposit pricing. |
You want to collect a $2,500 deposit from customers when they book the venue, so you enable deposit pricing and enter $2,500 as the deposit. You decide to charge the final amount for the booking to the customer's credit card 15 days before the event.
| 6. | Set the start and end datefor the listing., and ensure the availability is correct. |
When you created the venue listing, the start and end dates defaulted to the day you created the listing. You want to set the availability for the entire year, so you change the start date to January 1 and the end date to December 31. This ensures that the listing is available for booking from 3:00pm to 11:00pm, Friday to Sunday, throughout the year.
| 7. | Set the minimum notice required before booking. |
You require a minimum of 30 days' notice to book the venue.
| 8. | (Optional) Create and assign questions to the listing. |
| 9. | Link the room resources to the listing. |
You want to reserve both the reception hall and deck when a party is booked, so you link those resources to the listing.
You don't want customers to see (or select) these resources during checkout. Instead, you just want the resource to be automatically reserved when the listing is booked. To set this up, you select Hide this resource from buyers on listing & checkout.
| 10. | Create add-ons for the listing. |
You want customers to be able to rent additional tables and chairs if they book the desk during the summer months, and to be able to add other options such as decorations and catering.
